Internationally renowned, Terrie Odabi, is a classically trained singer who studied under Gwen Brown, Bill Bell and the late John Patton. While traveling she started gaining interest in other cultures and languages from Latin to Spanish, from a variety of African to Middle Eastern dialects. Her incredible depth and understanding of music cultures were the premise of the library, which covers several African dialects to Gospel, Soul, RnB and more experimental types of singing. The library contains over 5.000 phrases and sounds derived from over 20 hours of session material. The phrases are divided into a nomenclature that allows the composer to easy access the type of phrase he is looking for. The majority of phrases were sung multiple times, which allows the composer to stack for more phatness/fullness, but also allows tiny variations making the score alive. In addition Terrie also made 10-30 variations of many of the phrases, so the composer can truly combine the phrases to create his own songs.

The 25 instruments that make up The LSO’s Semara Dana Gamelan Ensemble had to be recorded in great detail, as if each were to be a sample library in its own right. Any compromise in the number of velocity layers or the round robin alternate samples could result in the whole living, breathing sound losing realism and dynamic expression.
WHICH INSTRUMENTS ARE INCLUDED?
How do you condense such a massive collection as a gamelan into an easy-to-use, downloadable sampled instrument? We scratched our heads over this one for a while, and decided to condense the essential gamelan sound into 3 plug-and-play sets.
This means that you get all the tuned instruments ( reduced versions ) – the big gongs, the wonderful paired metallophones and the kettle gongs, combined and arranged across a chromatic keyboard, ready to play.
What you DON’T get is the percussion – the kendang drums, cengceng, kempli, kajar, bebende, gentorak.
This set still weighs in at 2 GB, and is ideal for anyone that wants the essence of gamelan, the magical flavour – without breaking the bank or the hard drive.
